NW Kansas native, NASA astronaut Nick Hague safe after emergency landing

NW Kansas native, NASA astronaut Nick Hague safe after emergency landing

The Soyuz-FG rocket, with the Soyuz MS-10 spacecraft atop, lifted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 2:40 p.m. local time (4:40 a.m. EDT / 8:40 GMT) on October 11.

This week's mishap marked the fourth time in the Soyuz program history that the ballistic mode of re-entry has occurred. NASA's Bridenstine said Hague, the US astronaut, had told him he wanted to fly again and that NASA had huge confidence in him but that he didn't know when he might fly. One photo showed Hague smiling, and another showed him next to Dmitry Rogozin, Russia's space agency chief. "We plan that they will fly in the spring".

Expedition 57 Commander Alexander Gerst of ESA (European Space Agency), NASA Flight Engineer Serena Auñón-Chancellor, and Roscosmos Flight Engineer Sergey Prokopyev-all of whom arrived at the station in June-are continuing to operate the ISS and conduct "important scientific research".

He said a panel of experts is looking into the specific reason that prevented the booster's separation. "It's not what you want to happen, but it happens", he said. "We need more data". The Russian space agency Roscosmos has launched an investigation following a Soyuz rocket malfunction.

The Soyuz system has a long history of reliable launches.

Both men appear understandably disappointed in the wake of what they just experienced, and the realization that they won't be headed to the International Space Station any time soon. NASA now depends on Russian Soyuz launch systems to ferry crew members to the station.

But questions still swirl about Hague's future schedule, as well as the bigger picture of space station staffing.

Zinedine Zidane's agent speaks out on replacing Jose Mourinho
"They had four attackers and it was hard to defend against a very good team". Shearer believes that United's most marked decline has been in defence.

The current space station crew of an American, a Russian and a German was scheduled to return to Earth in December after a six-month mission, and it wasn't immediately clear if their stint in orbit might need to be extended.

The Russian space program has suffered several failures in recent years.

The launch failure follows close on the heels of another Soyuz issue, in which a hole was discovered August 29 on the MS-09 spacecraft that delivered the most recent crew to the space station.

Two astronauts from the USA and Russian Federation landed safely in the steppes of Kazakhstan after their Soyuz rocket failed two minutes after launch.

Relations between Moscow and Washington have sunk to post-Cold War lows over the crisis in Ukraine, the war in Syria and allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 USA presidential vote, but they have maintained co-operation in space research.

"I strongly believe we're going to get the right answer to what caused the hole on the International Space Station and that together we'll be able to continue our strong collaboration", Bridenstine said on a visit to Moscow this week, according to the Associated Press.
