Caravan migrants break through fence at Guatemala border

Caravan migrants break through fence at Guatemala border

US President Donald Trump threatened Thursday to send the military to the Mexican border and to imperil a trade deal in an intensification of his anti-immigrant rhetoric ahead of congressional elections.

He even threatened that the migrant issue could undermine the recently re-worked trade deal between the US, Mexico and Canada.

Reports from Guatemala say a group of Central American migrants have torn down a border gate and are rushing towards a border bridge into Mexico.

The Pentagon has authorized up to 4,000 National Guard troops to support the border mission.

In a series of raging tweets, the U.S. president urged Mexico to "stop this onslaught" and prevent the would-be immigrants from entering the US.

Illegal immigration is likely to be a top issue in November 6 USA congressional elections.

NBC reports that U.S. officials are now tracking that small group as they make progress towards the US.

Exhausted after tramping in the sun and rain, an advance group of the Honduran migrants on Wednesday took refuge in a church-sponsored shelter in the center of Guatemala City.

He says that before their study, there was no particular discussion of the impact of climate changes on the mental health. Meanwhile, months with an increase of precipitation can increase the probability of mental health issues by 2 percent.

Bartolo Fuentes, a former Honduran congressman, was arrested hours after Mr Trump tweeted on Tuesday: "The United States has strongly informed the President of Honduras that if the large Caravan of people heading to the U.S.is not stopped and brought back to Honduras, no more money or aid will be given to Honduras, effective immediately!"

One Honduran human rights group said the migration was more a case of "forced displacement" than voluntary emigration, although the Honduran government has warned people not to join an "irregular movement" it describes as "political".

Barely a week goes by without Trump warning about the danger posed by ultra-violent Central American gangs like MS-13, while chants of "build the wall" are a staple element of his pre-midterms campaign rallies. During a presidential debate, Lopez Obrador indicated his administration would stop doing "dirty work" for the United States by detaining Central American migrants.

The Mexican government has sought assistance from the United Nations refugee agency to help process migrants claiming refugee status at the southern border, a step that could allow it to disperse the train of people and placate Trump.

The "March of the Migrant" began on Saturday in Honduras with just over 1,000 Hondurans en route to the United States of America.

The sea of humanity - which started last week with fewer than 200 people - is now approaching Mexico, hell-bent on steaming toward the US border.

Waving Honduran flags and carrying umbrellas to protect against the sun, the migrants arrived earlier at the Guatemalan side of the muddy Suchiate River that divides the country from Mexico, noisily demanding they be let in.

"We have evidence that this caravan is also very much politically motivated", he claimed.
