Pakistan face Australia with T20 top ranking at stake today

Australian captain Aaron Finch won the toss and sent Pakistan in to bat in the first Twenty20 global in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Pakistan will hold on to top spot if they win at least one of the three matches in the series, so Australia will be pushing for a clean sweep.

Nathan Coulter-Nile top-scored for Australia with 34 and was one of the only three batsmen to get to double figures along with Chris Lynn (14) and Ashton Agar (19).

Paceman Faheem Ashraf and Shaheen Afridi both took two wickets apiece for Pakistan.

Pakistan, sent in to bat first, made a sound start.

Inside the Powerplay, Australia's top order had been dismantled with the top four batsmen bowled, Ben McDermott run out for a duck and Alex Carey caught behind.

Pakistan slumped to 133-8 after five wickets tumbled in 10 balls before Hasan Ali produced an unbeaten eight-ball 17 to finish their innings in a flourish.

Pressure grows on Saudi Arabia
Asked by a reporter whether he thought Saudi Arabia's explanation for Khashoggi's death was credible, Trump said, "I do". Germany is the fourth-biggest exporter of weapons to Saudi Arabia, behind the US, Britain and France.

Since Sarfraz took over the captaincy, Pakistan have won 23 of the 27 matches they have played - a momentum the skipper wants to maintain.

While talking about the tragic defeat, Finch said "That Powerplay was horrific...it was like a vehicle crash in slow motion", and added, "Opening the batting, it's my responsibility to get us off to a good start and set up the chase there".

"Absolutely they'll be looking at changes", Finch said. After Babar Azam (68*) and Mohammad Hafeez (39) had stitched together a 73-run stand for the second wicket, taking the total past the 100-run mark, the hosts lost their way. Including Hafeez's dismissal, Australia had hit back by picking up seven wickets for the addition of just 28 runs.

Australia got off to the worst possible start as Imad struck twice to remove the two openers Aaron Finch (0) and D'Arcy Short (4) to leave the tourist 2-5.

"I think when that many guys get bowled it's obviously alarming, particularly on a surface that didn't swing a hell of a lot".

Finch stated that the team would need to make serious amendments to their batting technique before the second T20 global at Dubai on Friday.

Pace duo Billy Stanlake (3-21) and Andrew Tye (3-24) did the bulk of the damage, with Stanlake using his pace and height to devastating effect.
