Apple Will No Longer Report Hardware Sales Figures

Apple Will No Longer Report Hardware Sales Figures

Apple sold 46.9m iPhones in the quarter, generating sales of $37.2bn, but eyebrows have been raised by escalating price tags which are stretching the wallets of even the most devoted Apple fans.

Apple's faithful customers aren't snapping up iPhones quite as enthusiastically as anticipated heading into the crucial holiday shopping season.

Sure enough, in the three month period ending in September, Apple sold just shy of 47 million iPhones, representing 0% growth in the number of smartphones sold from the prior year.

"The new reporting methodology is Apple's attempt to get investors to think of their entire business as a service", Munster says. This represented an increase of 21.1 percent from Q4 2017.

Apple's revenue from services increased 17% YoY to US$9.98 billion.

Apple has provided investors with this information for the past 20 years, with the upward trajectory of iPhone sales in particular over the past decade helping drive its market value up.

The sales of Mac also declined; Apple sold 5.3 million units of Macs in the quarter as compared to 5.4 million units sold in the same period a year ago.

Yet Apple's overall revenue continues to climb from one year to the next.

Woman who accused Kavanaugh of rape admits she never met him

The ASP (Average Selling Price) of iPhone soared to $793 from $618 a year ago.

But it was Apple's future guidance that spooked investors.

Apple decided it would stop providing unit sales for the iPhone, Mac and iPad.

The change is in line with how Apple already treats other hardware sales - such as those of the Apple Watch and HomePod - which it groups together rather than revealing sales in individual categories.

Apple earned $14.1 billion, a 32 percent increase from the same time previous year. The iPhone maker boasted $62.9 billion in revenue, slightly more than the $60-62 billion it previously estimated, as well as $14.1 billion in profit, up from $11.5 billion in the previous quarter. "But some people may fear that this now means that the iPhone units are going to start going negative year-over-year because it's easy to talk about great things and not show the details of things that aren't so great".

Other analysts said the outlook remains positive for Apple as it diversifies its revenue base with more services such as streaming music and Apple Pay, and moves toward the launch of a video service that could compete with Netflix.

The trend is indicating a colossal problem Apple has to deal with, and the company has chose to opt more damaging strategy to deal with - hide it!
