Luke Shaw says Manchester United need thick skin with Jose Mourinho

Luke Shaw says Manchester United need thick skin with Jose Mourinho

Paul Scholes branded Manchester United " s performance in the 1-0 victory over Young Boys as "awful" and says Jose Mourinho's team would be "battered' by a better opponent.

"What I want is a team to start strong, not waiting", Mourinho added.

"That's exactly what I want and probably you or the fans, they think "oh, Jose told them to start slow", "Jose told them to play nice and easy and wait to see what happens" or "to be losing for then to react". I want the team to start strong, I want the team to have a go immediately and it is a bit frustrating.

"Let's forget [the last group game] against Valencia".

"What he said the other day, I think that was more a generation thing and I don't think it was really aimed much at us as individuals".

United will be without Victor Lindelof for several weeks after he suffered a suspected thigh injury against Palace, with Mourinho hopeful of having the Sweden centre-half back for the hectic Christmas period.

"It's the biggest club in the world and we as players need to take what's said and take that on board".

It was Fellaini and a quite sensational celebration from Mourinho that would steal that show in the end though as they somehow managed to win a game that appeared to be heading towards a goalless draw.

United have endured their worst start to a Premier League season in 28 years, with Mourinho's side managing only eight goals in eight domestic games at Old Trafford so far this campaign.

United have had problems getting to their home Champions League games on time this season and were hit with a UEFA fine after kickoff against Valencia was delayed by five minutes. We are staying at a hotel a few metres away.

And perhaps that's why Mourinho also served up a challenge to his players in his pre-match media conference, claiming any member of the squad who doesn't like the pressure of playing at Old Trafford shouldn't bother turning up. "I never feel pressure at home".

"If you feel pressure to play matches at home where the people come to support... come on".

Meanwhile Mourinho said he was prepared to walk to Old Trafford if traffic problems again hampered United's preparations before a home Champions League tie.
