Mexico starts moving some migrants to new shelter

Mexico starts moving some migrants to new shelter

Sunday's incident occurred at the border in Tijuana, where thousands of caravan members have been arriving in recent weeks after fleeing poverty and violence in Central America.

Meanwhile, US Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has submitted a request to several other Cabinet departments to deploy civilian law enforcement officers to the US-Mexican border, Politico reported late Friday, citing an internal memo.

As thousands of migrants of asylum-seekers converge on the doorstep of the United States, what they won't find are armed American soldiers standing guard, that's because USA military troops are prohibited from carrying out law enforcement duties.

Hundreds of people marched toward the San Ysidro crossing where they were stopped by Mexican police.

US authorities say assailants threw a "hail of rocks" at agents, striking four who escaped serious injury.

Officials said Friday that one caravan member, a 46-year-old Honduran man convicted of murder, was arrested trying to cross the border illegally.

May defends draft Brexit deal
In London, a spokesman said Thursday that May "will shortly be updating cabinet on the state of the negotiations". Spain doesn't have a veto on the withdrawal agreement , which does not have to be approved unanimously.

A Honduran mother said that she was pressured to join the border rush on November 25 that culminated in American Border Patrol officers shooting tear gas into the mob to disperse them. In June, Trump retreated on the administration's "zero-tolerance" policy on prosecuting illegal entries by generally exempting people who enter the country in families.

The hunger strike at the border comes nearly a week after U.S. Border Patrol officers fired tear gas at the caravan after hundreds rushed the border.

The only two individuals Customs and Border Protection referred for prosecution ended up not being charged because they had medical problems and could not be held at the San Diego detention center, according to reports.

Top members of Obrador's cabinet plan to travel to Washington on Sunday to finalize an agreement which would mandate asylum seekers to remain in Mexico while their claims are processed by the USA authorities, the Washington Post reported.

CNN does not know the current status of those that were arrested. Asylum seekers are often released in the US pending the outcome of their cases in immigration court.
