Andros Townsend scored an outrageous volley during Man City v Crystal Palace

Andros Townsend scored an outrageous volley during Man City v Crystal Palace

No one could have predicted what was to come when Ilkay Gundogan gave second-placed City a 27th-minute lead.

Pep Guardiola summoned Sergio Aguero from the bench soon after the break, but City had a mountain to climb when Kyle Walker chopped down Max Meyer and Luka Milivojevic dispatched the resulting penalty.

- Palace registered their first away league win at City since December 1990, having drawn three and lost nine since then before today.

Townsend's strike would give Jurgen Klopp's side a huge boost heading into the Christmas period but his goal of the season contender drew widespread praise from a host of elite strikers and pundits alike with Alan Shearer, Ian Wright and Gary Lineker all showing their admiration for the goal.

Bernardo Silva's defensive header fell to the left boot of Townsend, and the winger fired in an absolute missile of a volley into the top corner of the City net from around 25 yards to silence the Etihad and give the Eagles a shock lead.

Manchester City have looked virtually unstoppable so far this season but Pep Guardiola was wary of Crystal Palace's threat ahead of their game at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Andros Townsend scored a spectacular volley as Crystal Palace came from behind to stun Manchester City 3-2 at home, to leave the reigning champions four points behind leaders Liverpool.

He may also be anxious that the tactics used by Palace manager Roy Hodgson really stopped City's usually scintillating football.

- This was City's first home Premier League defeat against a non-big six side since February 2016, when they lost 3-1 to Leicester City under Manuel Pellegrini.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring in just the third minute, with Ander Herrera and Anthony Martial netting either side of a Victor Camarasa penalty for the home side. We played good. Their second goal was an incredible goal.

Manchester United were happy campers at Cardiff under interim coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Deulofeu's goal secured Watford their first away win for over two months and lifted them, temporarily at least, into the top six, three points clear of the Hammers.

The Ralph Hasenhuttl revolution continued as Southampton beat Huddersfield 3-1 at the John Smith's Stadium.

It was a memorable victory for Roy Hodgson's side and Townsend's goal ensured it is one that will stay in the mind for that much longer.

On the bright side, De Bruyne has yet to start to a Premier League match this season and is coming back to full fitness at just the right time.

Bournemouth won 2-0 at home to Brighton, and Newcastle's home game with Fulham ended 0-0.
