Tottenham win over Cardiff 'important for our confidence' - Mauricio Pochettino

Goals by Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Korean star Son Heung-min inside the opening half hour saw Spurs beat the Welsh side 3-0, leapfrog Manchester City into second spot and go six points behind leaders Liverpool.

That took the Denmark worldwide to four Premier League goals for the campaign, while he has also set up a further seven.

Spurs, beaten by Wolves at home on Saturday, took just three minutes to get in front in South Wales through the familiar source of captain Harry Kane.

Klopp's men's seven-point gap at the turn of the new year has left fans and pundits alike wondering if Liverpool can win their first league title in 29 years.

Danny Rose was recalled to the starting XI by manager Mauricio Pochettino and he proved his value to the team.

It was the ideal way for Mauricio Pochettino's side to bounce back after their disappointing 3-1 defeat to Wolves at Wembley on Satudray.

Kane has a lethal record against every side he has played against and he now has the best strike rate of any player to have scored against 25 or more teams in the Premier League.

Spurs doubled their lead after 12 minutes when Kane, dropping deep and pulling Sol Bamba out of position to devastating effect, sparked a move featuring Moussa Sissoko and Son.

The former " Suits " star could be seen placing a protective hand on Kate's back as the pair made their way inside the gates. It's Meghan's first Christmas as a royal, though she celebrated with the family a year ago , in a break in tradition.

Kane then played in Son, who found the corner with an angled shot in the 26th minute for his eighth goal in his past eight starts.

'But I will be in a neutral position trying to enjoy the game.

Cardiff remain three points above the relegation zone, with heavy home defeats against Manchester United and Tottenham bookending the four points picked up in away games at Crystal Palace and Leicester.

"I don't care. Of course I will watch, it will be an unbelievable game and I enjoy football", he said.

It is amusing, or perhaps alarming, to think that if Tottenham had been offered their money back for the £30 million man in the summer, they would surely have taken it with glee.

"All the planning goes out of the window", Cardiff manager Neil Warnock said.

"I'm very pleased, the one thing I need to say is we suffered without rest between the games and therefore from the players it was magnificent", said the 46-year-old Argentinian.

"The energy we showed from the beginning was fantastic to dominate the game".
