Prince Philip 'shocked and shaken' but uninjured after auto overturns in crash

Philip walked away unhurt from the accident after the Land Rover Freelander he was driving rolled across a busy A-road following a collision with a Kia, close to the Queen's Sandringham estate on Thursday.

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said Prince Philip saw a doctor "as a precaution" who confirmed he was not hurt. Yet Mr Warne said that the ageing prince "didn't seem to be in pain, I think he was pretty clearly concerned and very shocked in the circumstances".

The duke has also made contact with the driver and passenger of the other vehicle, who were injured, and sent his "best wishes".

When authorities arrived to the scene at around 3 p.m. local time, the drivers were given breath tests following police policy and to check for signs of intoxication while driving.

"I rushed to the other vehicle - there was smoke coming out as if it may explode".

He then pulled him out of the Land Rover through the windscreen or sun roof.

The BBC reports Prince Philip was behind the wheel as he turned his Range Rover onto the coastal road A149.

The crash, between Prince Philip's Landrover and a Kia, has brought the national spotlight to West Norfolk over the past couple of days.

Champion Wozniacki through to second round with comfortable win
Asked why, at 31, she is still putting herself through the pain, Sharapova said: "I still really have the passion for this". His only hiccup came when he served for the match in the ninth game of the third set and was broken at love.

Tall, slim and built like a retired soldier, the former air force pilot spends most of his time driving, gardening and enjoying family life at royal estates, according to Buckingham Palace.

Norfolk Constabulary said in a statement: 'As is standard procedure with injury collisions, the incident will be investigated and any appropriate action taken.

Philip, 97, was trapped inside his overturned Land Rover after it collided with a Kia carrying two women and a baby.

"The female driver of the Kia suffered cuts while the female passenger sustained an arm injury, both requiring hospital treatment".

Both casualties were treated at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital and were discharged last night. The palace said the accident happened Thursday afternoon near the queen's country residence in Sandringham in eastern England.

Warne found Philip trapped in the auto, but persuaded him to move one leg at a time to get out.

"Young, predominantly male, drivers are much more likely to crash within six months of passing their test than older drivers within six months of hanging up their keys".

Currently, British drivers have to reapply for their licence at the age of 70, and every three years thereafter, by self-certifying their sight is good enough to read a numberplate at 20 metres, and that they have no medical condition that prevents them from driving.
