Special Counsel Indicts Roger Stone

Special Counsel Indicts Roger Stone

Stone, 66, President Donald Trump's longtime friend and a veteran political operative, was arrested after the special counsel filed a seven-count indictment against him as part of an ongoing probe into Russian Federation interference during the 2016 election.

The indictment includes one count of obstruction of an official proceeding, five counts of false statements, and one count of witness-tampering.

Stone was arrested in Florida on Friday before dawn, prompting Trump to lash out again about a "Witch Hunt" against him.

US President Donald Trump has once again accused the US mainstream media of biased reporting and questioned why Hillary Clinton hadn't been indicted after his long-time ally Roger Stone was arrested as part of the Russian Federation probe.

"FBI open the door!" one shouts.

Billionaire real estate developer Donald Trump, left, walks to the Federal Courthouse in Newark, N.J., with Roger Stone, the director of Trump's presidential exploratory committee, October 25, 1999, for the swearing-in of Trump's sister as a federal appeals court judge.

Stone - who is known for his opposition research - has worked with American presidents from Richard Nixon to Trump.

"I look forward to being fully and completely vindicated", he said.

On Saturday, the president tweeted that "if Roger Stone was indicted for lying to Congress, what about the lying done by Comey, Brennan, Clapper, Lisa Page & lover, Baker and soooo many others?"

It adds to the growing list of Trump associates who have been charged in the special counsel's probe. "(Separately, both men helped arrange the now-famous June 2016 Trump Tower meeting with a Kremlin-linked attorney about getting information that could be damaging to Hillary Clinton.) Mr. Trump was also pursuing a plan to build a Trump Tower in Moscow", the NYT reported.

This timeline gives researchers an opportunity to study what happens in the brain in the years before cognitive symptoms arise. He cited previous research that proved other factors are also responsible for the development of the disease.

Stone has a knack for commanding attention: He sports impeccably tailored suits and close-cropped bleach blond hair and is willing to say just about anything.

According to the indictment, not only did Stone lie to Congress about his interactions with WikiLeaks and the Trump campaign, but he also tried to prevent an associate, Randy Credico, from providing testimony to Congress that would contradict Stone's version of events.

"During the summer of 2016, STONE spoke to senior Trump Campaign officials about Organization 1 and information it might have had that would be damaging to the Clinton Campaign", the indictment says.

Stone argued that he wasn't arrested for anything that shows collusion with the Russian government or Wikileaks: "First of all, I always said that there could be some process crime". Under the pseudonym Jason Rainier, Stone made contributions on behalf of the Young Socialist Alliance to the campaign of Pete McCloskey, a Republican primary opponent of Nixon in 1972.

It says the Trump campaign directed a senior campaign official to contact Stone after the WikiLeaks release of hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and other groups on July 22, 2016. Stone has a tattoo of the former president on his upper back.

On Friday, Mr Podesta referenced the cryptic tweet in a post about Mr Stone's indictment, noting it was "Roger's time in the barrel".

Stone's ties to Trump go back four decades.

In the film, Frank Pentangeli's character is about to testify before Congress against Michael Corleone, but since he was being heavily guarded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the family was not able to get to him. "I don't own a firearm, I have no prior criminal record, my passport has expired", Stone told ABC's This Week news magazine programme.

Mr Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen and former campaign adviser George Papadopoulos have also been charged.
