Venezuela: President Maduro ready for talks with opposition, says Russian agency

Venezuela: President Maduro ready for talks with opposition, says Russian agency

Guaido has been recognized as the nation's rightful leader by two dozen nations that contend the re-election of socialist President Nicolas Maduro was a sham, in part because his strongest opponents were barred from running. Guaido is being targeted by Venezuelan Supreme Court. He was deposed for less than 48 hours until overwhelming popular support and loyalists in the military helped return him to power. He has previously accused the USA of trying to orchestrate a coup.

Bogotá and Washington have routinely denied that, while foes say Mr Maduro uses such accusations as a smokescreen when in trouble.

"If the government of the United States intends to intervene us, they will have a much worse Vietnam than you could imagine." .

The White House said Trump and Juan Guaido, the opposition leader trying to replace Maduro, agreed to maintain regular communication after Venezuelan authorities opened an investigation that could lead to Guaido's arrest.

Maduro however, still has the backing of the army although Mr Guaido has offered amnesty to any military personnel who want to defect.

"Donald Trump has without doubt given an order to kill me and has told the government of Colombia and the Colombian mafia to kill me", Maduro told RIA. Venezuela's top prosecutor asked the country's Supreme Court to freeze Guaido's assets and bar him from traveling.

Mr Guaido said he did not underestimate the threat of imprisonment but did not believe it was "anything new".

Washington has recognised Guaido as the South American country's acting president and says that strongman President Nicolas Maduro should leave power.

"I won 68 percent of the vote", he told RIA. An allegation that has been supported by America, the European Union and many other nations.

The US also banned dividend payment, debts and assets transactions with the Venezuelan government and the state-run oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela S.A. And US citizens and permanent residents were prohibited from buying any bonds related to Venezuelan state-owned enterprises.

"Maduro willing to negotiate with opposition in Venezuela following USA sanctions and the cutting off of oil revenues", Trump posted on his Twitter page.

Millions have left Venezuela since 2015, fleeing hyperinflation, poverty and food and medicine shortages.

This came few weeks after the Brazil attacker said that every top player "has to play" in the Premier League. PSG won the game with an early goal from Edinson Cavani and a late one from Angel Di Maria.

While it was not clear if they would be armed, the strategy reflects government concern the United States could try to defeat Maduro militarily.

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Citgo can continue to operate - but its earnings must be deposited into a blocked account in the United States.

In that context, the arrival in Caracas of a Boeing 777 plane from Moscow on Monday led to speculation that Maduro's government was preparing to ship more gold reserves out of the country, following shipments of $900 million of gold to Turkey past year.

Support for dueling presidents in Venezuela has broken along traditional lines.

Last week, a group of soldiers rose up against Maduro.

Maduro claimed that President Trump had ordered the government of Colombia to assassinate him.

In a tweet Wednesday, Trump repeated a travel advisory from the State Department, telling USA citizens not go to Venezuela.

Trump tweeted Wednesday there's a "Massive protest expected today".

"Venezuela has risen up to dream of the country we want to be", said Guaido.

But for now, the military high command remains loyal to Maduro.

Russian Federation along with Turkey, Iran, Cuba, Bolivia and El Salvador back Maduro.
