Trump has a meeting to discuss human trafficking at border

Trump has a meeting to discuss human trafficking at border

In response, Drew Hammill, a Pelosi spokesman, said in a statement on Friday night that "President Trump's recklessness didn't make us safer, it undermined our security with 35 days of border patrol agents, DEA agents, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and Homeland Security personnel missing paychecks".

"If the president wants to call that a wall, he can call that a wall". The two men met alone, and conversed with no aides present.

1 said there is a "good chance" that he will have to declare a national emergency to secure funds for a border wall.

"I think there's a good chance that we'll have to do that", Trump added, referring to the possibility of an emergency declaration.

"Well, I think that she was very rigid - which I would expect - but I think she is very bad for our country", Trump responded.

Trump told Congressional leaders that he won't sign a spending bill which does not include funds for a border wall. But he also suggested he could also let a decision on the wall wait until February 15, when funding runs out again for the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies that were shuttered.

"But we will be looking at a national emergency because I don't think anything's gonna happen", he said later in the briefing.

"Basically she wants open borders".

The White House did not immediately return a request for comment on the meeting between McConnell and Trump.

What is a national emergency?

Oscars snub Bradley Cooper as director, 'Beale Street' as best picture
The same logic would seem to hobble Green Book , whose five nominations do not include a best director nod for Peter Farrelly. On Tuesday, the 61-year-old filmmaker received his first ever Best Director Oscar nomination for last year's BlacKkKlansman .

"I think you'll find it very exciting", he said of Tuesday's address.

McConnell's top deputy, Sen.

"I heard a lot of word salad in that interview", Basset told MSNBC's Alex Witt on Sunday. "But I don't know if he shares those same concerns".

"Look, whether we should have been there in the first place, that's first question", Trump said. But on Thursday he described negotiations with opposition Democrats "a waste of time".

Such a move would nearly certainly get tied up in the courts.

Interviewer Margaret Brennan warned Trump that he would still have to deal with the ppeaker over border and immigration issues, a national emergency notwithstanding.

Pelosi said she was open to negotiating funding for more ports of entry or additional border security technology. Ironically, the shutdown itself ended up costing the government an estimated $11 billion dollars, which is almost twice the $5.7 billion Trump wanted allocated for a wall in the first place.

"I would say we will have 115 miles of wall, maybe a little more than that, very shortly".

Construction of a border wall was one of Trump's signature 2016 campaign promises, and he repeatedly said at the time that Mexico would pay for it.
