Jordan, Meadows Refer Michael Cohen to DOJ For Perjury

Jordan, Meadows Refer Michael Cohen to DOJ For Perjury

Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen told the House Oversight panel on Wednesday that Weisselberg was involved with Cohen in paying hush money to an adult film actress in the days before the election - with Trump's blessing.

"It was a very productive interview today, where he was able to shed light on a lot of issues that are very core to our investigation, and we were able to drill down in great detail", Schiff said, adding that he intented to publicly release transcripts of Cohen's testimony "at the appropriate point".

Cohen testified publicly Wednesday against Trump, calling his former boss a con man who lied about business dealings in Russian Federation.

On Thursday, House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff announced the committee would hold a public hearing with Felix Sater, Trump's Russian-born partner in the hemorrhaging Trump Soho project, who is also a convicted felon who once stabbed a man with a broken margarita glass in a Manhattan Mexican restaurant.

During yesterday's testimony, Eric Trump first floated the allegation that Cohen had lied and that during the presidential transition "Michael was lobbying EVERYONE to be 'Chief of Staff'". "As I said, I am committed to telling the truth". Mueller's findings and those of the congressional committees may influence whether Congress seeks to impeach Trump and remove him from office. Trump previously has refused to divulge the tax documents, citing an IRS audit.

"We would provide them with these copies so they would understand that the premium, which is based sometimes upon the individual's capabilities to pay, would be reduced", Cohen said.

Cohen said he had no direct evidence that Trump or his campaign colluded with Moscow during the election campaign, but that he had suspicions that something untoward had occurred.

House Financial Services Chairman Maxine Waters, D-Calif., said she also wanted to investigate another allegation by Cohen: that Trump had directed a $15,000 speaking fee, owed to him personally, to his foundation instead.

Weisselberg has served the Trump family for more than 40 years. Of these two, Donald Jr.is the Trump more legally exposed: as Michael Cohen knows, it is a crime to lie to Congress. His private testimony before the House Intelligence Committee was expected to last into the evening.

'Liar, Pants on Fire': GOP keeps focus on Cohen, not Trump
The president retweeted an earlier dig at Cohen but otherwise did not offer live commentary. So when did Cohen actually lie to Congress-then or now? That's not quite what Cohen said.

Weisselberg has been a Trump ally for decades, dating back to when the president's father, Fred Trump, was calling the shots.

In a series of unhinged tweets on Friday morning, Trump alleged that Cohen wrote a book called "Love Letters To Trump" and was shopping it around after the incidents in Charlottesville and Helsinki, which Cohen said were factors in his decision to go rogue.

"It was very interesting because he didn't lie about one thing".

Cohen also said he's in regular contact with the federal prosecutors in the Southern District of NY about ongoing investigations, and he said the president is under investigation for issues that haven't yet become public.

"He doesn't give you orders; he speaks in code", Cohen testified.

The manuscript was entitled Trump Revolution: From The Tower To The White House, Understanding Donald J. Trump - and according to the Daily Beast, it was aimed at offsetting books deeply critical of the president.

In his January 2018 offer, Cohen stated that Trump is a far cry from being "crazy", "dumb", "paranoid", a "liar", "in over his head" and hateful toward the media, as 45 has been occasionally called by his critics. Cohen's lawyers had touted his cooperation with investigators before he was sentenced to three years in prison in December.

Wrote Jordan and Meadows, "this is demonstrably, materially, and intentionally false" because it contradicts the sentencing memo from federal prosecutors in NY, which said Cohen "told friends and colleagues, including in seized text messages, that he expected to be given a prominent role and title in the new administration". His questioning also prompted Cohen to identify Trump Jr.as the "Executive 2" mentioned in "charging documents" filed by prosecutors a year ago. "I am ashamed that I chose to take part in concealing Mr. Trump's illicit acts rather than listening to my own conscience".
