European Union urges 'maximum restraint' from India, Pakistan after air strike

European Union urges 'maximum restraint' from India, Pakistan after air strike

Pakistani military said Tuesday that Indian air force violated the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kashmir region.

"Pakistan will definitely respond to Indian aggression", Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi categorically announced while addressing media on Tuesday. Secondary reports citing unnamed official Indian sources have noted that targets outside of the camp at Balakot were targeted too.

Ahead of the meeting, Qureshi chaired an emergency consultative meeting at the Foreign Office where he said that Pakistan holds the "right to self-defence" and a "befitting response" to India.

The incursion could have been in retaliation for a deadly February 14 suicide bombing in India's half of Kashmir that killed at least 40 troops.

The strikes mark the first use of airpower by India against Pakistani territory since the two countries fought a war in 1971.

Pakistan said it would respond at a time and place of its choice, with a military spokesman even alluding to its nuclear arsenal, highlighting the escalation in hostile rhetoric from both two sides since a suicide bombing in Kashmir this month.

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Asif Ghafoor tweeted early Tuesday and Radio Pakistan claimed that the IAF planes dropped payload in haste before leaving, which fell near Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Pakistani Kashmiris burn a representation of the Indian flag to denounce the recent killings by Indian forces. "I pledge on this soil, I will not let the country die, I will not let the country stop".

India said the strike was predicated by intelligence showing the terror group was planning more suicide attacks in India.

Allegedly, Kylie Jenner has been "in denial for days" and finding the devastating news hard to get her head around. Jordyn has yet to comment on the reports on her social media. "Jordy?! That was Kylie's bestie, her ride or die".

Since then, rhetoric between Islamabad and New Delhi has been steadily escalating.

On the intervening night of 25 and 26 February, the Indian Air Force carried out air strikes across the LoC at around 3:30 am.

JeM had also previously caused a crisis between India and Pakistan over a raid on the Indian parliament in 2001.

The Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility.

The Pakistan military spokesman said the Indian aircraft "intruded" from Muzaffarabad sector.

Addressing a rally of former soldier's in the Indian state of Rajasthan on Tuesday, just hours after the airstrike, Modi said India was in "safe hands".

Balakot police chief Saghir Hussain Shah said: "There are no casualties, there are no damages on the ground because of the dropping of the bombs". Pakistan called the attack a "grave aggression" and promised a "timely and effective response" by its own military.

There has been no immediate explanation for the different accounts but India and Pakistan routinely contradict the other.

India says an air strike launched on a Pakistani-controlled area of Kashmir has killed "a very large number" of militants - contradicting information from Pakistan's government.
