Amazon announces price cut on hundreds of Whole Food products

Shoppers will save at least 20 percent on hundreds of items with an emphasis on organic produce, the company said in a news release. It's also discounting spiral-sliced ham ($3.99 per pound, a savings of at least 33 percent), an Easter staple. "Prices will be reduced by an average of 20 percent on select items throughout the store". Prime members now qualify for two-hour delivery at Whole Foods, they can use Alexa to add groceries to their Prime Now cart and arrange for grocery pick-up within 30 minutes at some locations. In April, Prime members will see deals such as 35% off sustainable, wild-caught halibut fillets, a $2 price drop to $2.99 per pound on organic strawberries and 20% off sandwiches and wraps. Amazon Prime members crossed 100 million in the U.S. in 2018, up from 54 million members in 2015.

Amazon has once again dialed up a round of price cuts at Whole Foods stores, according to The Wall Street Journal's Heather Haddon.

From this week the market - known for prohibiting over a hundred preservatives, flavors, colors, high-fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated fats - is cutting sale item prices by a further 10 per cent.

The cuts will go into effect Wednesday and are mostly focused on produce. On Wednesday, the retailer announced that it's slashing prices on hundreds of store items. Amazon said these deals would be available to all shoppers, not just Amazon Prime members, who are offered additional savings on Whole Foods goods.

Amazon reportedly plans to open dozens of its own grocery stores in major United States cities, separate from Whole Foods.

Whole Foods will continue to build on its special offers for Prime members, as well as efforts to promote sales online.

Meanwhile, Amazon purchased the Whole Foods Market chain in August 2017.

In a statement to Fast Company, Whole Foods refuted the workers' claims, claiming their full-time team members averaged the same number of hours in January and February 2019 as they did during the same time a year ago.

Amazon Prime members will find twice as many deals.
