Fisher-Price recalls 'Rock 'N Play' sleepers linked to infant deaths

Fisher-Price recalls 'Rock 'N Play' sleepers linked to infant deaths

After dozens of infant deaths, Fisher-Price is recalling its Rock "N" Play infant sleepers.

"AAP urges parents to stop using the product immediately", the statement said.

Fisher-Price and the CPSC did not specify how the infants died, but said the deaths occurred after the babies rolled over from their backs to their stomachs or sides while unrestrained.

A separate Consumer Reports investigation linked the device to at least 32 infant deaths, including some for babies younger than the 3-month-old benchmark from Fisher-Price's original warning.

Fisher-Price advises consumers to immediately stop using the product and call the company for a refund or voucher.

The recall did not say what caused the infants' deaths.

What we won't get, however, is a 5G iPhone, as it was originally speculated that Apple would only launch such a model in 2020. It has reportedly hired up to 2000 engineers, including engineers from both Intel and Qualcomm, to work on its own modems.

For more information about the recall, customers can contact Fisher-Price at www.service.mattel.com and click on "Recalls & Safety Alerts" or at 866-812-6518 from 9 a.m.to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. "Stores should remove the "Rock 'N Play Sleeper" from their shelves".

The AAP does not recommend any sleeping products for infants or any products that require restraining a baby.

The recall covers about 4.7 million sleepers, which sold for between $40 and $149 since 2009. "By not fully compensating consumers, Fisher-Price is assuring that many consumers will instead choose to keep the product", said Nancy Cowles, executive director of Kids in Danger, a nonprofit that focuses on reducing childhood injuries from consumer products.

"The AAP advises against using auto seats, strollers, or other devices for sleep because of the risk that a baby could roll or turn into an unsafe position and be incapable of moving, leading to suffocation or strangulation", it said.

The Rock "n Play is not on Toys R Us" Canadian website, is listed on Walmart's Canadian website but is not available to purchase, and is available on Amazon and Best Buy's Canadian websites.

Earlier this week, following the article from Consumer Reports, Fisher-Price said its Rock 'n Play Sleeper "meets all applicable safety standards".
